Javglad Garcia, of Providence, Rhode Island, was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 17, and charged with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a child, and second-degree reckless endangerment, Connecticut State Police said.

Troopers received several 911 calls about a Nissan Rogue driving east on Route 2 in East Hartford that was "all over the road," police said. Garcia allegedly nearly hit multiple vehicles before she pulled over onto the shoulder. A Good Samaritan stopped and took her keys until police arrived.

When troopers arrived, they found the glassy-eyed Garcia sitting in the back seat of the SUV with the child. She slurred her words and appeared intoxicated, State Police said.

Garcia told police she pulled over because she couldn't see well but denied having anything to drink or smoke before getting behind the wheel, according to troopers. However, she failed a field sobriety test, troopers said.

She was released from custody after posting a $5,000 surety bond, police said.

The child wasn't harmed in the incident, and police took custody of the minor until a family member could pick them up. Troopers did not say how Garcia and the child were related.
